LaShawnda Lindsay-Dennis named one of Augusta Magazine’s Top 10 young professionals

LaShawnda Lindsay-Dennis, Associate Professor of Education at Paine College and graduate student in the Georgia Regents University College of Education’s Clinical Mental Health program, has been named one of Augusta Magazine’s Top 10 young professionals.

Dennis received her doctorate in educational psychology from Georgia State University. As a professor, she has developed and taught special topics classes on gender psychology and African-American education, presented at national conferences, published multiple journal articles, and earned three grants totaling more than $360,000. In 2014, she was invited to the first White House Research Conference on Girls in Washington, D.C. Currently, she serves as the Creative Director of Ananse Design Essentials, a local business specializing in handcrafted accessories.

Dennis is also the founder of Black Girls Matter, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing awareness to the social and economic issues faced by young African-American women across the world.

ADP names 29 GRU students as scholars

Automated Data Processing (ADP), an American provider of business outsourcing solutions, has named 29 students from Georgia Regents University to be among the company’s 2015 scholars.

The scholarships are funded through a $700,500 three-year grant from ADP to Georgia Regents University, Paine College, and Augusta Technical College to enhance science education and to increase the number of graduates in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and STEM-related fields.
In addition to scholarships, ADP also provides funding support for tutorial centers to help GRU students excel in rigorous STEM disciplines.
“We are grateful for ADP’s investment in the STEM education efforts taking place at each our institutions,” says Dr. Thomas Gardiner, Associate Dean of GRU’s College of Science and Mathematics. “The company’s generosity shows just how much they are about the success of our students, our state, and our nation.”

GRU Hosts Lion/Jaguar Invitational With Paine College March 7

The GRU Augusta men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will host the Lion/Jaguar Invitational with Paine College starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at Westside High School in Augusta, Ga.

The Jaguar men’s team just set six personal records in their most recent meet at the Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga., on Feb. 28. The men finished second overall and bested three Peach Belt Conference schools.

The Jaguar women notched fifth in Columbus out of eight teams and had two personal records achieved.

Staff Appreciation Night with the Jags

GRU Basketball PromoGRU Augusta returns home for the first time in three weeks this weekend when the Jaguars host Paine College in the latest installment of the crosstown rivalry at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jaguars take on the Lady Lions in the women’s contest on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s matchup to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.

GRU Athletics and the university’s Employee Advisory Council have teamed up to host Staff Appreciation Night with the Jaguars. The first 100 university staff employees (non-faculty) will receive complimentary admission. The specials will extend to the concession stand as well, where staff members can receive discounts on hot dog combos and on popcorn.

Staff members will also be eligible for a special drawing to win a pair of signed basketballs by the Jaguar Men’s and Women’s Basketball squads. Several raffle prizes and other giveaways are also planned throughout the doubleheader.

Other promotions include a halftime hotshot contest for cash sponsored by Health Center Credit Union.

General admission seating for all current and retired GRU staff, as well as faculty, is $3. All GRU students are admitted free with a valid JagCard. For the general public, tickets are $8 for a single game and $10 for a doubleheader. Senior citizens, along with non-GRU students, will be admitted for $7.

Season tickets packages are available for $75 to Jaguar Club members and for $100 to non-Jag Club members. The season ticket booklets will continue to include 20 tickets. All current GRU faculty and staff, as well as retired GRU, ASU, GHSU, and MCG faculty and staff, can also purchase season ticket booklets (maximum of two) for $25. The Jags currently sit at 3-1 heading into Tuesday’s 7:30 p.m., non-conference matchup in Columbia, S.C., against Benedict. The Jags (1-2) and Lady Tigers tip off the action at 5:30 p.m., from Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
