ASU Wins Sportsmanship Award

Augusta State Volleyball was named the recipient of the 2011 Volleyball Team Sportsmanship Award by the Peach Belt Conference. It marks the second time in the four-year history of the award program that ASU has been honored; the Jaguars previously claimed the award in 2008.

The team award is selected by other teams who compete in that sport, and an award is presented in June to the team that best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducts themselves with a high degree of integrity, character, and class.

The award comes after ASU notched a five-win improvement in 2011 and finished fifth in the PBC regular-season standings. The Jags registered their first conference tournament victory since 2007 when they defeated USC Aiken 3-2.

Jaguars register 200th victory in Christenberry Field House

Augusta State’s Harold Doby tipped in on O’Neal Armstrong runner to force overtime, and the Jaguars outlasted Mount Olive 73-70 on Saturday, Dec. 31, in Christenberry Field House.

The victory marked the Jaguars’ 200th win in Christenberry Field House, and extended ASU’s regular-season, home winning streak to 41 games. With the win, ASU evened its overall record at 5-5.

The Jags open their Peach Belt Conference home schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, when they host Armstrong Atlantic State at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Field House.
