Dr. Catherine Roland, Chairwoman of Georgia Regents University’s Department of Counselor Education, Leadership, and Research, has been named the recipient of the American College Counseling Association’s (ACCA) 2013 Excellence in Professional Leadership Award.

ACCA, a division of the American Counseling Association, selected Roland for this recognition because of her student mentoring efforts, leadership, research, and overall reputation in the field of college counseling.

Before joining GRU in 2013, Roland served as Department Chair and Director of the PhD Counselor Education Program at Montclair State University.

Roland is an award-winning researcher whose work has been published in numerous publications such as the Journal of Mental Health, the Journal of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, and the Louisiana Journal of Counseling and Development.

Roland currently serves as an executive council member for the American Counseling Association and is also a board member of GRU’s Institute of Public and Preventive Health.

Roland received a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University and earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Cincinnati.
