ASU receives gift from local insurance company

The O’Neal and Murphy Allstate Insurance Agency has awarded Augusta State $500 for the university’s commitment to community service.

Each year, the insurance agency hosts a Father and Daughter Gala, and the proceeds from that event are given to local non-profit organizations. According to Robert O’Neal, the agency’s co-founder, the organizations who receive these financial gifts are randomly selected, and ASU was one of six organizations to be chosen.

“Our agency enjoys giving to those companies that help others have a bright future, and ASU has done a lot to better our community,” O’Neal says.

“We are grateful that the O’Neal and Murphy Allstate Insurance Agency would consider us for such a gift,” says Helen Hendee, vice president of development and alumni relations. “In these economic times, every dollar counts, and this gift will help our university to continue offering students great academic opportunities.”

Hendee says this funding will be used to help with the cost of tuition or books for a student selected based on financial need.
