A memorial scholarship in honor of Catherine A. Barner has been awarded to Stephanie Punches, a freshman pre-nursing major, for spring semester 2012.
“December 2011 marks the one-year anniversary of Cathy’s passing. The generous donations from Cathy’s friends on campus have made it possible for the committee to award the first scholarship,” says Bill English, chair of the scholarship committee and assistant director for systems and programming services.
The scholarship is awarded to a deserving information technology services student assistant at Augusta State who is currently enrolled full time and pursuing a degree in any academic field. Stephanie has exhibited academic excellence as a student and is an asset to ITS,” says Janice Deloach, assistant director for support services.
Punches was named to the Fall 2011 Dean’s List. “It’s an honor to be a part of Cathy’s memory. This scholarship will help to continue my education and my efforts to one day work as a pediatric nurse. I hope to make a difference in the lives of countless children, and this scholarship means a world of difference for me,” she says.
The fund was established to honor Catherine Barner’s 30-plus years of service to the campus and her dedication to supporting and improving the technology resources that make it possible for students to obtain the best education possible at ASU.
